Where's the beef?

Where's the beef?

We lost a hamburger patty yesterday. The day before we had an uncooked patty left over from our lunch and I wrapped it up and put it in the fridge. Or, at least, I thought I had done that. But yesterday, my husband fired up the grill and I was getting all the food ready for him to put on it, and the patty was nowhere to be found.

I looked for it in the fridge. My husband looked for it. Our daughters looked for it. We also checked the freezer. Then I even looked in the trash!

Then I looked through the refrigerator AGAIN. It still wasn’t there.

We started looking sideways at the dog and wondering if he had eaten it.

My husband ended up going with Plan B for his lunch.

As I prepared dinner last night, I looked again for the patty. Still nothing.

That diligence in searching for the lost burger patty - that’s the diligence we should use for seeking out the Lord.

In my devotions this morning, I read Lamentations 3:25 and it says, “The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks Him.”

And in Psalm 63:1, the psalmist gives us words to say/sing,

You, God, are my God,

    earnestly I seek you;

I thirst for you,

my whole being longs for you,

in a dry and parched land

    where there is no water.”

How often do we take the time to earnestly, diligently seek the Lord? It seems many times, even on the best days, my attempts to seek the Lord, connect deeply with Him, and change my thoughts and my life to reflect Him better than I did yesterday, fall short.

But, I am moving forward. In my pursuit of God, in my pursuit of holiness, in my pursuit of living a life that points others to Jesus, I am gaining ground inch by inch.

To keep moving forward, I put reminders in my life to seek God. I set up my Bible and journal on my kitchen table so it’s the first thing I see in the morning. I have a sticky note near my computer with a favorite verse on it that reminds me that I am working for God and doing the good work that he has prepared in advance for me to do. I have sermons that I listen to on my podcast app and some faith/business podcasts. All of those things remind me to seek God every day and throughout my day.

Progress comes when I diligently seek the Lord. Reading the Bible, singing worship songs and hymns, praying, confessing my sins, fellowship with other believers are all pieces of that seeking.

God loves the whole world. He desires a deep connection with each one of us. And we show God our desire for that same deep connection when we seek him. And when we’re actively seeking God, we put our hope in Him. Because the seeking shows us what God has done in the past and reminds us of his deeds, consistency, and love. And that reminds us that God is always good to us.

What’s the business application?

You can’t expect your clients to seek out a deep connection with you. You have to do the work to continuously put yourself in front of them to build the know, like, and trust factor.

You get to decide what to share and then when you show up consistently, you build that connection.

Weekly emails, daily social media posts, free valuable content = connection.

You have the tools to create the connection. Show up. Consistently. Persistently. Diligently. Just like the way we’re called to seek God. Seek God and create opportunities for your audience to find you.

Oh, and that hamburger patty? It had fallen down behind a container at the back of the fridge. I found it this morning when I moved something that I would’ve sworn to you that I moved yesterday. Any guesses about what my husband is having for lunch today?
